Maulana Sheikh NazimKnowing The Saint

G. I want to be with you all the time.

M. Yes but there should be a limit to everything, an order for everything- meaning others' rights
should be observed too in the mean time. It can't be that we think about ourselves all the time.
Yes, it is nice to be with us but you should let other people have their turn too. One must speak
according to the people in an assembly. Sometimes they may not agree with that word I said, or
with that attitude or action I performed. But when they later put me on the scale (to judge), it is
they who will fall off, because we speak according to the level & honour of the people in the
assembly. It is a treatment - to collect them.

Now, there are some ikhwan /brothers of ours and they got offended without us even realizing it.
Why? They fall for stupid ideas such as "Shakykh Effendi is more interested in the rich people, he
pampers them more. We are poor ones so he has little interest in us". We say Ok, let us think it
through. A person who is rich has the ability and the opportunity in his hand to do what his ego
wants. Therefore although these people are capable of giving their egos whatever it asks for..
Now, when we are trying to collect them in the circle of muhabbat / love, those who misinterpret
this, as if we show interest in them and judge us using this as an excuse for it, will be deprived of
fayz/ abundant grants, help. Yes, it is like this. Of course they are rich, but there is a method for
inviting them slowly to this way of Allah by making them come down to the station of
humbleness and pulling them into the circle of love. For this you should behave warmly towards
them, show interest in them. So many like this here.

This Haji Bey now, his family & the family of his family. If I treated them in a rough way that
night in Avcilar, would they come to me a second time? And look at their situation now. It is
from the kamal /perfection of the irshad / guiding of our Grand Shaykh that he instructs us to
do it this way, and we do accordingly. Even kissing hands is a big matter for them. Allah bless
her, how many times his wife came down to my feet to kiss every time. It is impossible for her to
leave without kissing, no way. The position of this lady is that, they are who stand highest among
the elite. What is it that pulls her down to the ground? Her muhabbat. Well, if the muhabbat was
not transferred from our hearts to theirs, if the muhabbat that comes to my heart from above was
not transferred to theirs would that person ever condescend to do it? Of course they need to be
watched. They are in a sensitive point.

But what fayz can a person get who accuses his Shaykh when he can't understand this? None,
nothing. For this the Grandshaykh Hz would always say "Don't put us on scale (to judge us) or
you will get destroyed. And to hold ill thoughts, su-i-dhan, about your Shaykh is more evil than
committing adultery with a woman". To have su-i-dhan / suspicion about one's Shaykh is like
this. Shah Naqshband Hz would also say "Don't put us on scale, it destroys you". Don't put us on
scale, you can't weigh us. For this, don't follow our actions. Don't have su-i-dhan saying "What is
he saying, what is he doing, how is he...". He can do anything until he can hunt that quarry of his
and get his hooks into what belongs to him.

There are these people... What do you call them? Cowboys - Like shepherd but for the cows. He
herds cattle on horseback and sometimes he throws a lasso on them to herd/capture them. It
requires expertise to herd them the way he likes. Now the murshid also has lassos he may use to
catch the ones who try to escape. He can use it any way he likes. You can't follow his actions.
And maybe your ego does not accept the things he may do. Therefore if you put the actions of
the Shaykh into a scale by following & controlling what he does, you get destroyed. "We can go
to pubs too" says that ma'zun / authorized one. We can go to bad, dirty places too if they invite
us. Is it suitable for us to go to a wedding? If it was not suitable, they wouldn't send me. There is
permission for us. There is permission to go to whichever assembly it is. Why? There must be a
man there we will save, that is why they send us. Why should they send us if there is no one we
will save there? One can stay there, do fasil (Turkish music) and even sing a song.

An example to this is the time when Abayazid al-Bistami Hz was present in a monastery for the
occasion of a Christian feast. Bayazid Bistami Hz was ordered "Today you also put on your head
the cap of the priests, wear the priestly dress, put zunnar (the girdle, cord) around your waist and
be present in such monastery among the monks who will gather there for the occasion of a feast".
He trembled when the addressing came: "We have a glory that will come out". Then a stronger
one came in a dream. Again Bayazid Bistami woke up saying Audhu (asking refuge). And he
heard it clearly in a third time. The first one came to his heart & he heard it clearly after the
dream. At that time when it comes in the third level, they know that it is an order.

There is no need for them to go to the market & buy a priest dress. For Bayazid Bistami Hz, he
dresses in the dress he likes the moment he likes, whichever dress he likes. For this a qadi - Qadi
meaning the judge in the old days - was objecting to a person who possessed such ahwal / states.
He put his actions on a scale & said, "If I could catch him once, I would judge him & give him a
punishment". One day when he was walking in the street, the Qadi saw him coming from the
other end of the street. He said "Ok! Let me catch him now and judge him". He was coming
from the opposite direction as the Qadi was walking. After a while the Qadi saw another man
coming towards him in a different dress. There were only the two of them walking in the street,
no one else. So he looked & said, "What is this? Where did he go?". He continued walking,
saying, "He must have run somewhere else".

After a while he lifted his head & looked again. The other man who was coming towards him
had disappeared also & in his stead a new man was coming dressed in different clothes. When he
came next to him & they met like this, the Qadi saw a completely different man. Like this he saw,
Hj Mehmet Effendi - First he became Haji Ihsan Bey walking towards him, then he became Haji
Zeki Effendi as he came next to him and finally became Hj Ahmed Effendi. He appeared in
different clothes and finally dressed as a farmer. When he greeted him, he said "Qadi Effendi,
which one of us will you judge?". He whispered this in his ear & the Qadi was surprised.

So what I am trying to say is that these Awliya of Allah can appear in any dress, any time they
want. I think it was Ubaidullah Al-Ahrar Hz, who would nail golden shoes on his horse when he
was going for dawriya, Ali Effendi. He had many farms. He had farms and when he was going
out to visit them, he would nail golden shoes on his horse but would attach them with wooden
nails so they would fall off. When he returned all of them would've fallen off. He would say "May
whoever found them get happy"- a sign of his greatness. And each time he returned home, he
would have a different appearance and the ladies in the home would cover thinking a strange
man was coming. And then when he smiled, when he looked at them & smiled, they would
understand that he was the Hazrat. When he came from other places also, he would come in
different clothes. Again people would take caution thinking a stranger was coming. And he would
look & smile at them again. When he smiled, they would know that it is the Hazrat.

So to sum up, Bayazid Bistami Hz didn't need to go & buy that dress, immediately he appeared
in that dress. And in the blink of an eye he was present among the 700 monks- he appeared
without them realizing it. 700 monks all in black with their hats- the cylindrical head covering
they wear on their heads is called Kamilavkion. So he was ready among them. Now it is kufr for
him to wear that dress according to Shari'at. When you look like an unbeliever, it is kufr.
Wearing zunnar is a sign of kufr- to tie the rope priests wear, around your waist, to put on your
head the hats of priests, to wear priest dresses, all this is kufr. But he went there on order & also
with tayi - he didn't go by car or by horse. He was present there in the blink of an eye. "We have
a shan/glory to come there" He said, the words from Allah Almighty: "Wear it for Us & go
there". Don't fear when it is for Allah Almighty.

Therefore he was ordered to go to that assembly, finished! Because Allah Almighty has a glory to
come out there. He will be a means for those 700 monks to be guided, that is why he went. He
went to save the 700 monks and he made all 700 of them to come to iman. This is for who is

"It is easy to know Allah but difficult to know the wali" he says. GrandShaykh said like this: "It is
very easy to know Allah but hard to know His wali Friend". Why? Because Allah Almighty made
them hidden- "(Inna) Awliya Tahta Qibabi la Ya'rifuhum Ghayri". My Awliya are under My
domes, no one knows them other than Me" says Allah Almighty. Even if a wali is known, the one
to whom that wali gave permission can't be known. Why? If he sits with thieves, thieves are
suprised saying "this one knows the art of stealing better than we. So when he starts talking, they
say, "This one is a master in stealing" and start giving their secrets. When they give their secrets,
he holds them- finds a way to purge them, for irshad/to guide them.

For this, it is said "Don't judge a Shaykh, you can't judge a Shaykh". But our mureeds who can't
yet stand, who just started crawling, start to put us on scale and judge us immediately. They call
to me here "I will leave the tariqa". When did you enter the tariqa that you will leave it? For this,
it is said "Don't judge, you may get destroyed". The Shaykh knows his art. Once you submit
yourself to him, don't interfere in the rest. A doctor knows the method of healing. We also have
people above us- we are not mustaqil (acting alone). I am not the one who gives the order to go
or to come or to do or to destroy, am I? They act upon the order of the Prophet (sas). Who are
we? The One who has the absolute command is Allah Jalla wa 'Ala. He (swt) sends to His
Prophet-from the Prophet to Awliya & from the Awliya to the authorized ones. Why should you
accuse me? Only who appoints me is responsible for what I do or what I say, you are not.

Otherwise you stay where you are, can't go any higher. You suffer difficulties. Allah! Well, tariqa
is not an easy matter. If it was easy, everyone could move along the way & reach it. How many
are there that have reached? Because they can't leave their ego. Here he comes to me & says "I
will take my passport & leave". Ok, go ahead, run! I may have your leg pulled and make you
regret that you left. May Allah protect us from opposing actions. They favor their egos & accuse
the Shaykh. Be an enemy to your ego instead & say "O my ego, you are wrong & your actions
are wrong too". Why do you support your ego? Why do you take the side of your ego? What
good did your ego do you? What did you find from your ego other than its evil?
May Allah forgive us.
